I drag myself out of nightmares each morning and find there’s no relief in waking.
In celebration of Bisexual Awareness Day, reblog this with 3-5 characters you headcanon as bi!
“We wanted a Peggy Sue Got Married moment,” Kitsis tells EW, explaining that Emma would’ve seen Graham when she was locked up in the Evil Queen’s castle. “He would’ve been one of the guards because it would’ve been during that period,” adds Horowitz. “She would’ve seen him, and it would’ve been heartbreaking for her because she would’ve wanted to reach out to him, but knowing that—because she’s on a mission—she couldn’t. It wasn’t a big plot thing, but it was an emotional moment that we wanted to do.”
Just make sure I… he remains occupied, doesn’t return to my ship. I’ll take care of the rest. Okay.
awww thank you anon! i dont feel like i do a lot of analysis, mostly just rambling, but if you enjoy it, i’m happy to keep talking about them :)
mai, oh goodness, where do i begin, I LOVE HER A LOT??? she’s amazing and beautiful and so brave and good at heart and also funny and smart and i just ??? i love her so much she’s definitely up there on my list of fave atla characters possibly one of the top girls (though that’s hard bc all the girls in atla are so top-notch i dont think i could choose a favorite….but if i did, mai would def be one of the top contenders)
she’s sooo…i guess unique is the word?? as far as interesting female characters go, like, atla is FILLED with interesting female characters, but a lot of them still fit a trope you know?? and that’s not a bad thing, like katara fills the compassionate motherly trope, and toph fills the spunky tough girl trope, and azula is evil and manipulative, and ty lee is quirky and cute, and of course atla does tropes BRILLIANTLY and all these girls are fleshed-out and well-developed, but mai gets a trope that’s usually limited to guys and i think that’s super cool bc a) reversing gender norms (the stoic, emotionless tough dude) and b) atla then goes on to develop her beyond that trope and show us who she is beneath the aristocratic proper fire nation lady facade and the depth of her love, her kindness, and her courage, and i think it’s amazing
and you’re right she is really underrated and i think partly is because there are other girls who are not only more main but more, i guess, attention-catching? which isn’t a bad thing bc they’re still amazing (read: katara, toph, azula), but it means mai tends to fly under people’s radars a lot, and also the initial reading of her (emotionless, stoic, etc.) is what sticks to people’s minds and i think maybe they write her off as boring for it? when in fact there’s so much more to her that atla shows us later on, note especially the episode where she helps zuko escape the jail and then fights azula and just ugh i wish people appreciated her more because she is incredible and i love her to bits
also part of it might be the intense zutara shipping of roughly half the fandom if not more (and definitely a more vocal half, from my experience) and because katara is not only a main character but also far more focused on and developed than mai that when mai gets zuko in canon and a large portion of the fandom wants zutara, you get a competition between the girls that doesn’t exist in the show (i mean beyond when they were on opposing sides, obviously) and there’s really no way for mai to win because katara is, obviously, the main girl of the show and she’s amazingly well-developed and super easy to identify with and there’s really no competition there. which sucks because i love katara but i also love mai and it’s just unfair to, even subconsciously, pit these two against each other especially over a fictious love triangle. and like, i love zutara more than anything, it’s my atla otp forever, but that doesn’t mean i don’t adore mai and that doesn’t mean i don’t love mai/zuko either - i wish zutara had been endgame but mai/zuko was a beautiful ship on its own, it was adorable in its own way, they both really cared for each other and supported each other, and their love for each other really brought out the best in them. (i do wish they’d been more developed; what we got was really nice but they basically skipped straight from flashbacks of mai having a crush on him to them being together when he returns to the fire nation and i want more of that in between and the awkward getting to know each other again and flirting stage, not that they aren’t adorably awkward anyway, and i definitely wish we’d gotten more from mai’s perspective about everything than we did, though to its credit, atla did give us quite a bit, but i love her so much i wanted to know more about what she thought of zuko’s betrayal, his joining the gaang, everything, and i DEFINITELY want to know more about their life together, mai as fire nation queen, ruling at his side, etc. etc. and i still otp zutara to the high heavens)
sooo those are my thoughts on mai! i love her a lot, i wish we’d gotten more but what we did get was enough to make me adore her, and quite honestly, she ranks up there w/ the main gaang as one of my fave atla characters ever, and she definitely deserves a ton more love than she gets now.
If what I say resonates with you, it is merely because we are both branches of t h e s a m e t r e e .
